FAQ’s
Frequently asked questions.
Here are some common questions about Amsterdam sidecar tours.
Is the sidecar motorcycle safe?
Yes, sidecar motorcycles are very safe. Sidecar motorcycles have three wheels, so they are very stable and incomparable to normal motorcycles. Besides that, the vintages bikes have upgraded brakes and are completely restored.
Is a helmet obligatory?
Yes, a helmet is compulsory by law and it must always be worn. You don’t need to purchase a helmet, Amsterdam Sidecar Tours provides the best helmets for all sizes and are approved according to EU safety standard. Our helmets are kept in good condition, cleaned and sanitised after every use.
Do I need to get insurance?
All passengers on the sidecar motorcycles are covered by the liability insurance mandatory for all motorized vehicles. We do recommend you have travel insurance.
When should I book my tour?
You can book a tour for the same day if there is any availability, however these are private tours and so we cannot guarantee an available spot. The sooner the better. For the cancellation policies, please see Booking & Contact.
What if it rains?
We do tours all year round, in the freezing cold and in the burning sun. The Netherlands has very changeable weather, but because of the temperate sea climate the weather is never too extreme. In case of rain or very bad weather, you can reschedule if available, or cancel your booking (for which you will be fully refunded).
How do you fit 2 passengers on the bike?
This is easy, 1 goes in the sidecar and the other goes on the back. Both spots are very comfortable and offer a different view. Many times during the tour it is possible to switch.
Can I drive my own sidecar motorcycle?
No, it is not possible to drive your own sidecar motorcycle. All sidecar motorcycles come with a guide/driver. It is also not possible to rent a sidecar motorcycle.
